Some notes from The Quickening video on transformation

PRINCIPLES OF TRANSFORMATION

Invite God – Pray

Isaiah 62:6-7
Deeply feel inside that God wants to, and will come.

Holiness & Humility

Are we ready to die and be changed.
Is 66:2 contrite heart.
Humility is the door to unity.
God uses broken people.
Simple, sincere people.

Individual Obedience

Not what we do, but why we do it.
Man is impressed by activity, God is impressed by obedience.
Will encounter resistance.
Has to start with a core group of obedient people.
Always starts with a few who won’t give up. Usually two or three.

Biblical Unity

God doesn’t use or need a majority.
Can’t work for total unity in the whole community.
Didn’t start with everyone unified, just a few real relationships.
God does supernatural unity.

Breakthrough Prayer

Pray what God wants for the city.
Prayer, at its best when in cooperation with the Holy Spirit.
What if 50% of churches got together in a city in prayer?

God’s Work Unique

Risky, romantic revival.
Don’t try and set up revival for God.
God comes in a little back door.

God Uses Servant Leaders

Leaders - able to persevere through apathy and opposition.
Count cost, stay course, then directs people.
Take the burden.
God does great if you don’t care who gets the credit.
Influence with God more than people.

OBSTACLES OF TRANSFORMATION

Theological Misperceptions (all sovereign, mystical)

K-sara-sara attitude
Looking for a move of God without a move of man

Reliance on Programs

Humanism – man knows all
We’ve got the formula
Not kingdom building but ministry building.
Impatience and pride. Lowered Expectations
Accept lessor victories (lower the bar).
What we can do.
Satisfied with the little.
Familiarity.
No supernatural expectation.

Misplaced Motives

Do we want Him to fix something or can’t we bear to live without Him?
Selfish ambition.
All about the city, not the King and His kingdom.

Ignorance of the Past

Unresolved corporate sin
Lack of repentance No Sense of Membership
Attempt to do unity.
Remember that unity is a bi-product of humility.
Pride, offences and theological reasoning for disunity.

Lack of Hunger

No time for it.
Looking for a convenient revival.
Busy pursuing the world.
Revival is born out of passion, it doesn’t just fit in.
Choose between comfort or God’s presence.

I’M GONNA LIVE & DIE BELIEVING GOD TO TRANSFORM MY CULTURE !
