The Whirlwind

In February 2006, while I was in a time of worship/prayer, I saw a vision of a whirlwind like a giant twister. Early in 2005 I saw a small version of this whirlwind, rushing around on the inside of me, only that one had licks of fire flicking off all sides. As I looked at this huge whirlwind the Lord reminded me of the verse in Job, “Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind” and I knew it represented the Lord and what He was doing in the earth at present. (Job 3:1)

While I continued to watch it, I heard the words 'eye of the storm', so I peeked over the edge of the whirlwind, inside its vortex, only to find a small group of saints sitting around a table, eating and communing with the Lord and each other. There was perfect peace and calm in the eye of the storm, in contrast to the surrounding calamity.

As I pulled back, I saw that the whirlwind was drastically increasing at a rapid rate, until it would cover the whole earth. On the outside of the twister, I saw some people walking and running towards this awful mighty tempest without even seeing the calm setting in its centre. I heard the Lord say, 'these are the alert ones' and I realized that although they didn’t have a full picture of what was in the centre of the storm, they knew only that the Lord was calling them there. As these 'alert ones' came in contact with the “rushing mighty wind”, they were thrust into the centre, where they found peace and clarity, dwelling in His heart. (Acts 2:2)  Looking up from the centre of the whirlwind, my sight kept glitching between seeing circulating, rushing wind and the internals of a brick “high tower.” (Ps 8:2)

There were others outside the storm who were running away, even 'Christians', and there were others still who just ignorantly went about their daily business, unaware of the approaching tempest. As the whirlwind increased in size it also consumed both of these groups, only these were not thrust inward, they were hurled outward, cast far from the action.

If you wander through Acts chapter two’s, day of Pentecost account, you will see this very dynamic outworked in real life.

The Lord is saying, “those who continue to ignore or run from My dealings, and therefore resist real change, will find themselves cast further away from My heart than they already are” (See Matt 13:12 and Rev 3:15-16). The 'alert ones' who are embracing God’s humbling seasons, even the stormy ones, will find themselves thrust by the tempest into the centre of His will, embracing true New Testament communion rather than formality and ritual.
