Response to Bruce:

Bruce, it seems you didn't realise that this was a satirical article; it is sarcastic in nature.

The author is attempting to show, not only the error of the modern mega church phenomenon, but also its arrogance etc

peace

I see the pont and it is quiet clear and valid. But what I perceived when reading this which I do not agree with is an attempt to compare the then saints and what is currently happening. The approach gives me the impression like, 'we are doing a better job than the saints of old did' and thus grant us an elemnt of pride and contempt for the saints of old. Much as in principle, I agree with most of what is being said, I disagree with the tone of arrigance that accompanies the comparison of the two methods of evangelism used by the megachurch and saints of old.

What I do believe is that it is possible that the saints of old where in an environment that demanded the kind of approach that was used. Considering how Christ approached the Pharisees and their hypocricy, dont you think these saints of old, preached the way they idi because the context in which the ministered demanded of them to approach the gospel from this point.

I quiet agree with you, some saints of old preached such sermons way past the justification of such an approach in preaching the gospel, and regardless of their sincerety, they were wrong. Yet comparing our approach and their may lead us to a point of even thinking, we have even surpassed Christ's methods in our approach to preaching the gospel, thus we are doing a better job than he did.

Kind Regards

Yes Frank -exactly!
Most supposed evangelistic meetings I have heard have been " come down the front if you want Jesus to be your best friend, and your life will be wonderful". Then all those who went forward then considered themslves to be saved, -what a frightening thought! It seems that many western 'christians' are satisfied with living with an 'open sezame' gospel or rub the geni bottle gospel, or the santa claus gospel, in fact anything but the true gospel.
