Kingdom Quotes

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Jesus the Christ - Matt 16:24)
“It means much to be willing to be considered a failure, while we seek to build up a purely spiritual kingdom” (Frank Bartleman – ‘Azusa Street’ p. 29)
“To live two days in succession on the same spiritual plane is a tragedy”. (Smith Wigglesworth – ‘On Spiritual gifts’ p. 15)
“Men of prayer must be men of steel, for they will be assaulted by Satan even before they attempt to assault his kingdom.” (Leonard Ravenhill – ‘Why revival tarries’ p. 83)
“I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (Paul the apostle - 1 Cor 2:2)
“God loves to do great things by weak instruments, that the power may be of God and not of man” (George Whitefield)
“as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.” (El Shaddai - Num 14:21)
“Any clergy-laity distinction that elevates a priestly class, or an office, whether it is called bishop or senior pastor, over Christ’s immediate rulership of His people is of the spirit of anti-Christ.” (David Orton – ‘Snakes in the Temple’)
“Church leaders are called to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, not retard the saints for the work of the monastery” (Brett Jacobsen)
“The fact is when a man gets to the place where he really loves obscurity, where he does not care to preach, and where he would rather sit in the backseat than on the platform, then God can lift him up and use him, and not very much before.” (Frank Bartleman – ‘Azusa Street’ p. 124)
“A true spiritual awakening that endures is grounded deeply in well-thought-out biblical truth. Only when revival roots sink deep into the scriptures and draw their nourishment from God's Word does revival last.” (Charles. G. Finney – ‘The life and ministry of Charles G. Finney’)
“There have been more than enough conferences, and congresses, and committees and deliberations. It is time to act. There is not a moment to lose. There cannot be any question about what we have to do. No more conferences! No more doubt! No more delay! Arise; ye children of light, and buckle on the armor bright, and now prepare yourselves to fight against the world and Satan. We are called to be saints we are called to be brothers and sisters of Jesus, to fight with Him, for Him, with every particle of strength we have to the last gasp. That is enough. No more conferences!” (William Booth – ‘William Booth / Men of Faith series’ p. 45)
“Whole denominations, ministries and churches bow to the Baals of productivity and power. We want bigger buildings, bigger budgets and bigger badges – all for the kingdom of course.” (David Orton – ‘Snakes in the Temple’)
“When you and I are lost in the Son of God, and the fires of Jesus burn in our hearts, like they did in Him, our words will be the words of spirit and of life, and there will be no death in them.” (John G. Lake – ‘His life, his sermons, his boldness of faith’)

“Surely man-made movements need to be stirred. God has but one “movement” – that is His “one body.” This was the message at Azusa Mission in the beginning.” (Frank Bartleman - Azusa Street p. 24-25)
”I ask that men make no reference to my name, and call themselves not Lutherans, but Christians. What is Luther? My doctrine, I am sure, is not mine, nor have I been crucified for anyone. St. Paul, in 1 Cor 3, would not allow Christians to call themselves Pauline or Petrine, but Christian. How then should I, poor, foul carcass that I am, come to have men give to the children of Christ a name derived from my worthless name? No, no, my dear friends; let us abolish all party names, and call ourselves Christians after Him whose doctrine we have.” (Martin Luther)
“Blessed be God, there seems to be a noble spirit gone out into Wales; and I believe soon there will be more visible fruits of it. What inclines me strongly to think so is that the partition-wall of bigotry and party-zeal is broken down, and ministers and teachers of different communions join with one heart and one mind to carry on the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. May the Lord make all the Christian world thus minded, for till this is done I fear we must despair of any great reformation in the church of God.” (George Whitefield - 7th March 1739)
“The inability of the local church brothers to minister freely in their calling castrates the local church with resultant infertility and unfruitfulness.” (David Newby – ‘The Bubble will Burst’)
“You're gonna have to serve somebody; it may be the devil, it may be the Lord, but you're gonna have to serve somebody” (Bob Dylan)
“Science is the discovery of how God does things.” (John G. Lake – ‘His life, his sermons, his boldness of faith’)
“As surely as the farmer follows the simple principles of sowing, cultivating and reaping and can hence expect nature to give him a crop, if proper revival “measures” are employed God will invariably grant a revival.” (Charles G. Finney - ‘The life and ministry of Charles G. Finney’)
“The word does not live unless the unction is upon the preacher.” (Leonard Ravenhill ‘Why Revival Tarries’)
“Only wrestle in prayer, meet together in your houses, go to your private room, be instant, be earnest in season and out of season, agonize for souls, and all that you have heard shall be forgotten in what ye shall see; and all that others have told you shall be as nothing compared with what ye shall hear with your ears and behold with your eyes in your own midst.” (Charles H. Spurgeon – ‘Revival year sermons’)
“The quickening of the saints is the root; the saving of sinners is the fruit.” (Wallis – ‘In the day if thy power’ p. 49)
“Evangelize always using words only when necessary.” (St Francis)
“Bend us – bend us – bend us, O Lord!” (Seth Joshua)

“If our faith in God is sustained by sense-knowledge, even if that is by signs and wonders, then we falter when the evidence of His presence subsides or stops. God tests us. This is when we are vulnerable and look to other sources for a sense of protection and well-being.” (David Orton – ‘Snakes in the Temple’)
“The triumph of the gospel is enough to make any man the wildest kind of enthusiastic optimist. The unifying of the nature of God and man is the crowning achievement of Jesus Christ. The reason for the cross was thus revealed, man in God and God in man, one spirit, one purpose, one effort, one power and one glory.” (John G. Lake)

In our pursuit to proclaim ones self as God’s Chosen Remnant “in-the-know,” one must take heed not to smuggle self-elevate by jumping out of the frying pan of hierarchy only to incarnate into a fire of falsely humbled dictatorship.”

We who intend to forcefully pry the Kingdom out of dead men’s fists would do well to arm ourselves with a few of these. I laughed at the discovery that Luther himself forbid any to be called ‘Lutheran’. I was perplexed to see how fervently Booth opposed over-organization. I shook my head when I read that the founders of Pentecost deplored segregationalism! And I am heartsick when I read that Jesus decreed there be “One Master, the rest…brethren”.
How far we wander from the Truth! These sayings are to be like stones in the sling of heresy-slayers everywhere…write them on your heart!
