THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST - From Commencement to Completion (video series)- Chapter 2, Kingdom Prophecy Accomplished Part 2

by Brett Jacobsen

The focus of this teaching is to promote the biblical truth that Christ’s Kingdom is active and increasing right now on this earth, in this age. Erroneous eschatology has detracted from this truth in many circles of the Christian faith.

All of the major eschatological (study of how things end) passages are covered but the end of the world is not the important issue and true eschatology is merely a means to an end- Christ Himself as King of kings. Though we will look at the glorious end of earthly history from time to time, we will more so continually use the scriptures to interpret the scriptures and arrive at the present victorious Kingdom of Christ.

For most Christians this teaching will challenge you deeply in your understanding of the New Covenant and Christ’s Kingdom as well as liberate you greatly in the truth of His Word.

The Then Imminent Kingdom of Christ

Below are the scriptures that are in this teaching so you can read along:

The Kingdom was at hand:

In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent you: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand [eggizo- from eggus- near, ready]. (Matt 3:1-2)

From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand [eggizo]. (Matt 4:17)

Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time [kairos] is fulfilled [pleroo- complete, end], and the kingdom of God is at hand [eggizo]: repent you, and believe the gospel. (Mark 1:14-15)

These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, […] as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand [eggizo]. (Matt 10:5-7)

Verily I say to you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming [erchomai] in his kingdom. (Matt 16:28)

And he said to them, Verily I say to you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come [erchomai] with power. (Mark 9:1)

But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. (Luke 9:27)

And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come near [eggizo] to you. (Luke 10:9)

…be you sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come near [eggizo] to you. (Luke 10:11)

And he spoke to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; When they now shoot forth, you see and know of your own selves that summer is now near at hand. So likewise you, when you see these things come to pass, know you that the kingdom of God is near at hand [eggus]. Verily I say to you, This generation [genea] shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. (Luke 21:29-32)

The Kingdom was active:

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom(Matt 4:23)

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom(Matt 9:35)

The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it. (Luke 16:16)

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence [biazo- press, force], and the violent take [harpazo] it by force [harpazo- seize forcefully]. (Matt 11:12)

The Kingdom has come:

But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God [He did], then the kingdom of God is come [phthano- arrived] to you. (Matt 12:28)

But if I with the finger of God cast out devils [He did], no doubt the kingdom of God is come [phthano- arrived] upon you. (Luke 11:20)

And they went, and found as he had said to them: and they made ready the passover. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say to you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God [1]. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. (Luke 22:13-18)

[1] … 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; (Luke 24:13-32)

The Kingdom is Heavenly:

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:20-21) (also Heb 12:18-25 Sion)

The reason the majority of first century Jews missed Messiah and His Kingdom is the same reason that the majority of modern professing Christians miss His Kingdom: they are too busy looking for an observable kingdom, usually one that is in the future.
