THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST - From Commencement to Completion (video series)- Chapter 3, Broken Covenant and Desolation Part 2
by Brett Jacobsen
The focus of this teaching is to promote the biblical truth that Christ’s Kingdom is active and increasing right now on this earth, in this age. Erroneous eschatology has detracted from this truth in many circles of the Christian faith.
All of the major eschatological (study of how things end) passages are covered but the end of the world is not the important issue and true eschatology is merely a means to an end- Christ Himself as King of kings. Though we will look at the glorious end of earthly history from time to time, we will more so continually use the scriptures to interpret the scriptures and arrive at the present victorious Kingdom of Christ.
For most Christians this teaching will challenge you deeply in your understanding of the New Covenant and Christ’s Kingdom as well as liberate you greatly in the truth of His Word.
Jesus Prophesies Desolation and Tribulation on Israel Part 1
Below are the scriptures that are in this teaching so you can read along:
Symbolic acts and parables - Matt 21-22
Jesus declared King
Matt 21:1-11 - “Behold, your King comes to you” “Hosanna to the son of David”
Leaders’ negligence exposed
Matt 21:12-17 - “cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple” “when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased”
Fig tree cursed/mountain removed
Matt 21:18-22 – “found nothing thereon … Let no fruit grow on you henceforward [any longer] for ever [aion].” “if you shall say to this mountain”
Contrast between heavenly and earthly authority
Matt 21:23-27 – “By what authority do you these things? and who gave you this authority?” “from heaven, or of men?”
Parable for the chief priests and elders
Matt 21:28-32 – “I go, sir: and went not.” “the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.”
Another parable for the leaders
Matt 21:33-41 “a certain householder, which planted a vineyard,” “He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.”
Kingdom transfer
Matt 21:42-46
Jesus said to them, Did you never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? 43 Therefore say I to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof [1]. 44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them. 46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet. (Matt 21:42-46)
[1] To you therefore which believe he is precious: but to them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, [Matt 21:42] 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation [Matt 21:43], a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light (1 Pet 2:7-9)
-Paul’s writings not only relate Messiah to David (and Israel) but also to Adam showing His purpose is for not only national Israel but for the NT Israel- the church-
“The understanding of the Messiah loses its national political and religious significance and the significance of the Messiah in human history is attested and expounded. This is the distinctive theological achievement of Paul”. (Theological Dictionary of the New Testament – Kittle ix: p555)
This, Paul’s distinctive theology, attests that God advanced the Kingdom from being the nation of Israel’s only and opened it up to the nation of Christ: all who are in Him)
The called cast out- the wedding guests gathered
Matt 22:1-14
And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables, and said, 2 The kingdom of heaven is like to a certain king [God], which made a marriage for his son [Jesus], 3 And sent forth his servants [prophets] to call [kaleo] them that were bidden [kaleo] to the wedding [Jews]: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent forth other servants [apostles], saying, Tell them which are bidden [kaleo], Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: 6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slay them [you who kills the prophets…]. 7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers [crucify Him/kill the prophets], and burned up their city [A.D. 70, Rev 17:17]. 8 Then said he to his servants, The wedding is ready [Marriage of the Lamb & white horse army], but they which were bidden [kaleo] were not worthy. 9 Go you therefore into the highways, and as many as you shall find, bid [kaleo] to the marriage [the Kingdom age evangelism]. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests [the church ekklesia]. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he said to him, Friend, how came you in here not having a wedding garment [robe of righteousness / Jesus- put on Christ]? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called [kletos- invited], but few are chosen [eklektos- selected]. (Matt 22:1-14)
Pharisees and Sadducees tempt Jesus and fail
Matt 22:15-46
“And no man was able to answer him a word, neither dare any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.” (46)
