THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST - From Commencement to Completion (video series)- Chapter 6, Revealing the Annointed King Part 5

by Brett Jacobsen
The focus of this teaching is to promote the biblical truth that Christ’s Kingdom is active and increasing right now on this earth, in this age. Erroneous eschatology has detracted from this truth in many circles of the Christian faith.
All of the major eschatological (study of how things end) passages are covered but the end of the world is not the important issue and true eschatology is merely a means to an end- Christ Himself as King of kings. Though we will look at the glorious end of earthly history from time to time, we will more so continually use the scriptures to interpret the scriptures and arrive at the present victorious Kingdom of Christ.
For most Christians this teaching will challenge you deeply in your understanding of the New Covenant and Christ’s Kingdom as well as liberate you greatly in the truth of His Word.
Revelation chapter 5
Below are the scriptures from this teaching so you can read along:
Chapter 5:1
1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
* Seven sealed book – “The word biblion (book) itself permits of many interpretations, but for the readers of that time it was designated by the seven seals on its back beyond possibility of mistake. Just as in Germany before the introduction of money-orders everybody knew that a letter sealed with five seals contained money, so the most simple member of the Asiatic churches knew that a biblion made fast with seven seals was a testament.” (Introduction to the NT Vol 3 p 393 Theodor Zahn- from TDOV Chilton)
* written within and on the back- “And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.” (Ex 32:15)
The book is the Old and New Testament. Both Old and New Testaments were a witness against the covenant breakers who forsook Messiah.
Chapter 5:2-5
2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
5 And one of the elders said to me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed [nikao- conquer] to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
* The Lion of Judah – “Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, you are gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and to him shall the gathering of the people be.” (Gen 49:9-10)
* The root of David – “in that day there shall be a root of Jesse” (Is 11:10)
“I am the root and the offspring [genos] of David,” (Rev 22:16)
Jesus is Alpha and Omega, the root and the offspring…
* Jesus the Lamb is the only worth mediator of the New Covenant and is the fulfilment of the Old- He has conquered/prevailed.
* nikao is the same as “overcomes” and “overcame” in Rev 3:21 and conquer in – “a white horse … went forth conquering [nikao], and to conquer [nikao]” (6:2)
* It is noteworthy that Jesus opened the book and loosed the seven seals thereof. It is the will of God that these seals be opened to unleash the terror contained within.
Chapter 5:6
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth [apostello apostello] into all the earth.
* Jesus is now revealed, in paradoxical contrast to the Lion, as a Lamb: the humble sacrifice which bought His rule.
* He is “in the midst of the throne” central to the heavenly Kingdom.
* Again, Holy Spirit is portrayed as “seven lamps of fire burning before the throne” in heaven, and “seven horns and seven eyes” in that He is “sent forth into all the earth”.
Chapter 5:7-10
7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
9 And they sung a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for you were slain, and have redeemed us to God by your blood out of every kindred [tribe], and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And have made us to our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth [ge].
* “the prayers of the saints” sing the “new song” of praise as they have been “redeemed … to God by [His] blood”.
-“every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” is reminiscent of Daniel chapter seven:
“I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” (Dan 7:13-14)
* Notice that the emphasis is the saints reign on earth [ge] as “kings and priests”.
Chapter 5:11-14
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power [dunamis- miraculous], and riches [ploutos], and wisdom [sophia], and strength [ischus- force, might], and honour [time- value], and glory [doxa- praise], and blessing [eulogia- fine speech].
13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them [1], heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be to him that sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever [aion] and ever [aion] [2].
14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that lives for ever [aion] and ever [aion].
[1] In that “every creature” blessed, honoured and glorified Father and the Lamb- this shows us how God views things by faith, He “calls those things which be not as though they were.” (Rom 4:17)
[2] Again, the two uses of “for aion and aion” places the emphasis on the temporal earthly reign rather than the everlasting heavenly one.
