THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST - From Commencement to Completion (video series)- Chapter 6, Revealing the Annointed King Part 12

by Brett Jacobsen

The focus of this teaching is to promote the biblical truth that Christ’s Kingdom is active and increasing right now on this earth, in this age. Erroneous eschatology has detracted from this truth in many circles of the Christian faith.

All of the major eschatological (study of how things end) passages are covered but the end of the world is not the important issue and true eschatology is merely a means to an end- Christ Himself as King of kings. Though we will look at the glorious end of earthly history from time to time, we will more so continually use the scriptures to interpret the scriptures and arrive at the present victorious Kingdom of Christ.

For most Christians this teaching will challenge you deeply in your understanding of the New Covenant and Christ’s Kingdom as well as liberate you greatly in the truth of His Word.

Revelation chapter 12

Below are the notes from this teaching so you can read along:

Chapter 12:1-2

12:1 And there appeared a great wonder [semeion- sign] in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

2 And she being with child [1] cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

* It’s a “great wonder in heaven” - it’s a vision of a heavenly/spiritual battle.

* The sun, moon, and stars represent that she is a nation: See notes on Rev 6:12-14

* The twelve stars show her to be the covenant community (twelve sons & twelve apostles) (Gen 37:9 – Joseph’s dream)

* The child is Messiah which the covenant nation was travailing to deliver.

[1] “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel…” (Matt 1:23)

Chapter 12:3

3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

* The seven heads and ten horns here connect the dragon (Satan) with the Roman beast in 13:1. He is the driving force behind the beasts.

* Satan metaphorically wears the crowns of those whom he rules through

Chapter 12:4

4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth [1]: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born [2].

[1] Stars = angels (see 1:20)

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; (2 Pet 2:4)

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. (Jude 6)

[2] “I will put enmity … between your seed and her seed” (Gen 3:15)

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. (Matt 2:1-18) (v16)

Chapter 12:5

5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up to God, and to his throne.

* Remember all the Messianic prophecies we studied which showed that Christ was to rule the nations.

* Jesus was resurrected. Dan 7 and Acts 1 – came to the Ancient of days…

- Also, remember the two witnesses in chpt 11 “ascended up to heaven in a cloud;” (11:12)

* His throne means He rules…

Chapter 12:6

6 And the woman fled [pheugo] into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days [3 & a half years].

* The time when the Jewish saints were told to flee during the Jewish wars-

“let them that be in Judaea flee [pheugo] to the mountains:” (Mark 13:14)

Also, Elijah fed during the 3 and a half years of drought – 1 Kin 17:3-6

Chapter 12:7-9

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, [1]

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. [2]

9 And the great dragon was cast [ballo] out [3], that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceives the whole world [oikoumene]: he was cast out into the earth [ge], and his angels were cast out with him.

[1] Michael means ‘Who is like God’. Michael here is a symbolic representation of Jesus-

“the captain of the LORD’S host” (Josh 5:13-15)

[2] The dragon lost (against Christ and His messengers) and was, is and will be displaced from his heavenly placement-

And having spoiled [apekduomai- put off] principalities [arche] and powers [exousia], he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Col 2:15)

Behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)

[3] The many scrips regarding casting out devils use ekballo, here ballo is used.

…if I cast [ekballo] out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come to you. (Matt 12:28)

Chapter 12:10

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now [arti] is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power [exousia] of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down [kataballo], which accused them before our God day and night.

* Now is come… the Kingdom… the power- exousia – authority, jurisdiction, right.

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast [ballo] him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. (Rev 20:1-3)

Chapter 12:11

11 And they overcame [nikao] him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony [marturia]; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

* nikao –

“Him/he that overcomes” (Rev 2:7, 11, 17, 26, 3:5, 12, 21, 21:7)

…white horse: and he that sat on him… went forth conquering [nikao], and to conquer [nikao]. (Rev 6:2)

These things I have spoken to you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome [nikao] the world. (John 16:33)

And every spirit that confesses not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome [nikao] them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:3-4)

And one of the elders said to me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has prevailed [nikao] to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. (Rev 5:5)

Chapter 12:12

12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens, and you that dwell [skenoo- tabernacle] in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth [ge- land] and of the sea [1]! for the devil is come down to you, having great wrath [2], because he knows that he has but a short [oligos] time [kairos]. [3]

Those who tabernacle in the heavens should rejoice because, despite persecution, they have overcome…

[1] Land of Israel/Jerusalem & sea of people (as in Rev 4:6, 13), also, land beast, sea beast (Rev 13)

[2] Rev 9:1, 11 Abaddon leading the demon locust plague…

[3] “a short [oligos- puny (in extent, degree, number, duration or value)] time [kairos]”

Chapter 12:13-14

13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast [ballo] to the earth [ge], he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. [1]

14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time [3 & a half years], from the face of the serpent. [2]

[1] he was cast [ballo- like demons cast out] to the land [ge] of Israel – God cast him there to “fulfil his will” (Rev 17:16-17)

- He began persecuting the woman (covenant community) as Jesus prophesied would happen in Matt 23 & 24 etc.

[2] “Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains” (Matt 24:15-16)

- wings of a great eagle – “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Is 40:31)

Chapter 12:15-17

15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. [1]

16 And the earth [ge- land (of Israel)] helped the woman, and the earth [ge] opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. [2]

17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. [3]

[1] “destroy the city and the sanctuary” “the end thereof shall be with a flood…” “to the end of the war desolations are determined.” (Dan 9:26)

[2] the ge- land of Israel swallowed up the desolating flood which God allowed Satan to unleash…

[3] Various persecutions between 70AD and Constantine…
