THE KINGDOM OF CHRIST - From Commencement to Completion (video series)- Chapter 6, Revealing the Annointed King Part 14

by Brett Jacobsen
The focus of this teaching is to promote the biblical truth that Christ’s Kingdom is active and increasing right now on this earth, in this age. Erroneous eschatology has detracted from this truth in many circles of the Christian faith.
All of the major eschatological (study of how things end) passages are covered but the end of the world is not the important issue and true eschatology is merely a means to an end- Christ Himself as King of kings. Though we will look at the glorious end of earthly history from time to time, we will more so continually use the scriptures to interpret the scriptures and arrive at the present victorious Kingdom of Christ.
For most Christians this teaching will challenge you deeply in your understanding of the New Covenant and Christ’s Kingdom as well as liberate you greatly in the truth of His Word.
Revelation chapter 14
Below are the notes from this teaching so you can read along:
Chapter 14:1
14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion [1], and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads [2].
[1] City of Davidic Kingdom- NT = King Jesus’ Kingdom
Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David. (2 Sam 5:7)
Sing praises to the LORD, which dwells in Zion: declare among the people his doings. (Ps 9:11)
…Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. 2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. 3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge. (Ps 48:1-3)
…The LORD said to my Lord [Jesus], Sit you at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool. 2 The LORD shall send the rod of your strength out of Zion: rule you in the midst of your enemies. (Ps 110:1-2)
For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his habitation. (Ps 132:13)
Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, your King comes, sitting on an ass’s colt. (John 12:15)
For you are not come to the mount that might be touched… 22 But you are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better things than that of Abel. (Heb 12:18-24)
[2] We saw in chpt 7:1-3 & 4-8 that this is a representation of the first Jewish believers (from the twelve listed tribes) who were sealed from the destructive flood which was to come upon the land of Israel.
Chapter 14:2-5
2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth [ge- land (of Israel)]. [1]
4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.
5 And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God. [2]
[1] The 144000 live on earth but reside on Mt Sion where they sing worship to God.
* They have been “redeemed from the [land of Israel]”, they are Jews.
* They sound like God – “a voice” - “from heaven” “as…many waters” “great thunder”.
[2] In that they – “were not defiled with women” and had “no guile” and were “without fault” is symbolic of righteousness in Christ.
* “follow [akoloutheo- accompany] the Lamb…” – They live on earth, reside in heaven “before the throne of God”, and follow the Lamb by following the Holy Spirit…
* “the firstfruits to God and to the Lamb” – they are the Jewish firstfruits church (James 1 diaspora)
Chapter 14:6-8
6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth [ge- land (of Israel)], and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, [1]
7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
8 And there followed [akoloutheo- accompany] another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. [2]
Again (like in chapter 7) the saints are sealed, then the Israel land dwellers are given a last gospel chance, then the city is ready to fall for it has become the new Babylon.
[1] “them that dwell on the land [ge- land (Israel)]” is distinct from “every nation, and tribe, and tongue, and people”. “to the Jew first, and also to the Greek/Gentile” (Rom 1:16, 2:10)
[2] “the hour of judgement has come” “Babylon is fallen, is fallen” – Rev 17:5-6, 18:23-24-, 2 Chron 36:15-16, Acts 7:51-52, Matt 23:29-38, Luke 13:33.
Actual ancient Babylon copped it:
And, behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he has broken to the ground. (Is 21:9)
Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD’S vengeance; he will render to her a recompense. 7 Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. 8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed. 9 We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies. 10 The LORD has brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God. (Jer 51:6-10)
* “all nations” - Rev 18:23-24- “all nations deceived”
Chapter 14:9-11
9 And the third angel followed [akoloutheo- accompany] them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, [1] which is poured out without mixture [akratos- undiluted] into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: [2]
11 And the smoke of their torment [basanismos- torture] ascends up for ever [aion] and ever [aion]: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name. [3]
[1] v 6 – “them that dwell on the land”, v 8 – “Babylon is fallen” & “the wine of the wrath”. Now, continuing the context is v 9-10
[2] This great tribulation against the apostate Jews is “His indignation” as it’s done “in the presence of the Lamb”.
[3] It doesn’t say they are tortured for ages and ages, but that “the smoke [evidence of fire] of their torment” ascends for ages and ages.
Chapter 14:12-13
12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. [1]
13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, says the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. [2]
[1] The 144000 from previous verses & the reaped righteous from v 14-16…
[2] Those who died in the Lord “from henceforth [from now]” [the next verses- the reaped from the land] are blessed because they are eternally victorious even if they are martyred.
Chapter 14:14-16
14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. [1]
15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in your sickle, and reap: for the time is come for you to reap; for the harvest of the earth [ge- land (of Israel)] is ripe. [2]
16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth [ge]; and the earth [ge] was reaped. [3]
[1] Cloud – See notes on Rev 1:7 –
…one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days… (Dan 7:13-14)
… And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. (Acts 1:8-9)
…and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (Matt 24:29-30)
… Hereafter SHALL YOU SEE the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. (Matt 26:63-64)
Crown – He is “king of kings…” (Rev 19:16)
…a crown was given to him: and he went forth conquering … (Rev 6:2)
[2] The context of this chapter, as well as much of the book is the ge/land of Israel - “the harvest of the earth [ge- land (of Israel)] is ripe”.
* And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth [ge] mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matt 24:30-31)
[3] The final reaping of the righteous Jews in Judea before Jerusalem was judged and desolated.
Chapter 14:17-20
17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.
18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in your sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth [ge- land (of Israel)]; for her grapes are fully ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth [ge], and gathered the vine of the earth [ge], and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. [1]
20 And the winepress was trodden without the city [new Jerusalem], and blood came out of the winepress, even to the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs [stadion]. [2]
[1] Once the remnant have been fully reaped by Jesus (14-16) now the “clusters of the vine” of Israel “are fully ripe” and ready for “the wrath of God”.
* Scrips which have Israel/the covenant community as the vineyard - Matt 20:1-16, 21:28-32, 21:33-43, 1 Cor 9:7.
This is reversed from Joel 3 which had God judging out of Jerusalem, now He is judging from New Jerusalem against “Jerusalem which now is [or then was]” (Gal 4:21-26):
Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. (Joel 3:13-16)
* It is “the wrath of God” not Satan. God is doing this destruction.
[2] “without the city” doesn’t mean outside Jerusalem but outside the New Jerusalem- the new holy city (see Rev 11 notes).
We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle [the Jerusalem one]. 11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. 12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. 13 Let us go forth therefore to him without the camp, bearing his reproach. 14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. (Heb 13:10-14)
* “Sixteen hundred stadia is slightly more than the length of Palestine” (TDOV p 367)
