While there is clearly a need and a biblical precedence for leadership in the church [1], the point is what type of leadership that is. For every scripture that can be misused to promote institutional and hierarchal leadership there are many which clearly present biblical leadership as contrary to such.

Not only that, the verses that have been mutilated time and again to present carnal leadership can easily be presented in their correct manner which places leaders humbly in the midst of (not over) Spirit-led Christ communities. This verse from Hebrews is a perfect example:
